Getting to know artist, Jonathan Howard

Jonathan Howard is an emerging landscape painter whose evocative, emotionally resonant works have begun to earn critical acclaim. Though early in his career, Howard’s loose, expressive approach reflects the influence of artists such as Monet and Bonnard, while maintaining a fresh, distinctly contemporary voice.

Now based in Austin, Texas, Howard spends countless hours painting en plein air throughout the city and the surrounding Hill Country. He is drawn to Austin’s shifting light, everyday moments, and the movement and rhythm of its streets and landscapes. These observations inform paintings marked by lively brushwork, rich atmospheric color, and a strong sense of place—works that have become some of his most celebrated to date.

In just a few short years, Howard’s paintings have been accepted into galleries both nationally and internationally. He continues to work from his Austin studio, where he explores new compositions and techniques. Rooted in the impressionist tradition, his work brings a fresh energy and personal perspective to contemporary landscape painting.

Inspired by the natural world and the quiet beauty of ordinary surroundings, Howard uses layered textures and expressive color to capture the emotional essence of the landscape. Often found walking outdoors in search of inspiration, he is drawn to discovering—and reimagining—the beauty in the everyday.
