Getting to know artist, Jonathan Howard

Though still early in his career, Howard is already receiving acclaim for his emotionally stirring landscapes. An Austin-based artist and sculptor, his work explores themes of beauty, nature, and spiritual reflection. Known for its thoughtful composition and impressionistic quality, Howard’s paintings capture fleeting moments of light and atmosphere with a loose, expressive style influenced by masters such as Claude Monet and Pierre Bonnard while maintaining a distinctly contemporary voice.

From an early age, Howard showed a natural eye for beauty, finding inspiration in everyday scenes—sunlit fields, flowering trees, and quiet neighborhood streets. He attended Baylor University, where he refined his technical skills and deepened his study of French and American Impressionism, movements that continue to shape his approach to color, light, and form.

In 2022, Howard moved to Austin, Texas, drawn by the city’s vibrant creative community. There he began dedicating long hours to painting en plein air, capturing the rhythm of the city and the surrounding Texas landscape. The shifting light, movement, and energy of Austin provided endless new scenes to interpret through his unique lens, and many of his most celebrated works emerged from this period.

In just a few years, Howard’s work has been exhibited in galleries across the United States and internationally, including solo and juried exhibitions in Texas, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, and Northern Ireland. His paintings have also received recognition through awards, publications, and artist residencies.
